[Over the past few weeks, Ion had become used to going outside amongst the trees behind House 1 and reading beneath the shade. Lately, the weather hadn't been too nice, so he remained indoors. He had hoped it would have just remained overcast, rather than turn into a full-blown storm! But today the weather had changed, and it was sunny once more. A perfect day to go out around the village!

Although something was a bit off about Ion today. For starters, this was his third day without sleep. He'd been staying in his room at night to avoid worrying anyone, but... well, what was there to worry about? He felt fine, totally refreshed, and so far he'd been keeping himself occupied by reading his books every night with the light on. Although he was a little curious about how he hadn't run out of books yet. Hadn't he read this one already? He thought he did, but he couldn't seem to recall anything about it! And so he spent the last few days rereading the same book for the first time over and over again.

Right now, the little Fon Master is heading towards the library in order to find a new book. That is, he was, until he noticed hey! He never got around to reading this, did he?

...did he?

Now feeling rather confused, Ion stopped and sat on the edge of the fountain for a moment, hoping to straighten out his thoughts.]

[He quickly looked over at Nephry, having been momentarily lost in his thoughts.] Oh, hello Nephry. Is something the matter?

I was wondering the same thing about you. You seem...distracted today.

Ah, I suppose I am. I haven't been sleeping very well lately... [Now there's an understatement.] It's made me a bit more scatterbrained than usual.

What's been keeping you awake, if I may ask?

[she has trouble sleeping herself sometimes, and wonders if he might be having nightmares. Also her left hand is having the worst week of its life and is probably visibly bandaged right now, if Ion wants other things to focus on.]

Nothing in particular, really. It's strange, but I just haven't felt tired at all. Maybe a little forgetful, but...

[And a distraction is just what he's going for, lest Nephry worry needlessly over what Ion believes to be nothing.] ...Nephry, is there something wrong with your hand?

[makes a halfhearted fist with it when she realizes what he's looking at]

It's...more of a precaution, at this point. I've had a bit of a rough few days too. Has anything else been strange for you?

[Oh look, it's someone that he's not seen around town much. Well, at the fountain this clearly calls for Atsuki to wave and make his way on over] Hey there.

[Luceti was still a small village compared to Daath back home. While he didn't know everyone on a personal level, usually Ion could at least recognize them. But the effects of the mushi made Luceti a city of strangers.] Ah, hello.

[Then, after a moment, he adds.] Have we met before?

[...Hmm. Atsuki pauses and thinks about it for a moment - during this time he starts to breathe heavier. He's been doing this a lot lately, for no reason too. Uuugh. But-]

I don't think so. We could start now.

[Ion seems very relieved to hear that. With his memory being so bad these days, he'd hate to think that he's started forgetting people he was friends with!] My name is Ion. And you are...?

Atsuki Saijo. Nice to meet you. [He'll even offer a hand for the guy]

[And he'll return the gesture with a smile.] Pleased to meet you as well, Atsuki.

Were you headed somewhere, or just taking advantage of the nice weather for a walk?

[Oh hey, Emil recognizes you, so he's going to come on over to see what's up.]

Hey, Ion. I haven't seen you in a while.

[With three days having passed and not many many memories for the mushi to feed on, already it seems like most residents in Luceti have suddenly become strangers to the Fon Master. Poor Emil is no exception.]

[He stares up at him for a minute before asking, quite sincerely:] ...I'm sorry, but... do I know you?

[Action]

[... that's kind of depressing. Emil knows he isn't anything special, but he didn't think he was THAT forgettable. Oh well.]

It's Emil... don't you remember me?

Should I..? [He frowned, trying to think. How strange. He couldn't remember meeting anyone around the village before!

Wait. That doesn't make much sense either. He shakes his head.] Sorry, I've been a bit... forgetful lately.

That's okay, maybe you just haven't been sleeping well. I know that hearing strange voices all the time can be kind of creepy-- it's been making it hard for me to sleep too. That's why Colette and I were talking about finding someone to sing over the journals to distract everyone.

Now that you mention it, I haven't had a good night's rest for a few days, now. That's probably it...

[ As unaffected as Anise is from all the crazy happening around Luceti, she's still aware that there's a lot of strange goings-on (maybe experiments, maybe not?) in the village. So when she realizes that Ion isn't home and that she has no idea where he might be, she immediately starts looking for him. ]

[ It's a while before she makes it to the plaza, and once she spots him, she has every intention of running over to make her presence known. But that dazed look in his eyes makes her pause a little, and she opts instead to carefully walk over. ]

Ion?

[Ion looks up and over at Anise, immediately replacing his confused expression with a smile. As someone he sees everyday, the mushi wouldn't let him forget Anise. Unfortunately, the Fon Master has no idea of this, and he's just relieved he still recognizes her!]

Hello, Anise. What are you doing on this side of town?

Oh, nothing, just walking around~ What about you? We're a long way from the house!

[While Nephry promised not to reveal Ion's memory loss to anyone else in the house, that didn't mean Ion couldn't make a careless slip somewhere and cause Anise to worry. He needed to be careful about what he said.]

Ah, well... I was just on my way to the library to return this book and I must have grabbed the wrong one, because I don't remember reading this one yet. And I just sat down here near the... er... [What was this big water-shooting thing called again?] ...uhm, here, so I could flip through and double check!

[Seems like he's forgotten how to lie, as well.]

[The look that she gives him is enough to convey that nope, you're going to have to do better than that, buddy. Anise sees right through your fail!lies.]

[Still, though, she'll humor him a little bit. For now, anyway. She takes a seat next to him on the fountain, and leans over so that she can take a look at the book he's holding onto.]

This book, huh? You're sure you haven't read it? Isn't this the one that's been lying around the house a lot, lately~?

Oh! Er... it is? [He looks down at the book and frowns.] Then, that must be why I haven't read it yet. If it's just been lying around, I must have started it and then forgot abou-

[Ion froze. He forgot about it. It all made sense now. He must have read the book and then forgotten how it went! This was rather extreme memory-loss compared to his slip-ups this morning. And the shock of realizing all of this is starting to show in his expression.]
